The richest 1% took $7 of every $100 of America’s income in 1980. They have increased that to $20 of every $100 today. In just one generation they’ve TRIPLED their cut of the pie. Most of the gains by the rich were not ‘earned’ in the sense of production, innovation, inventiveness. They didn’t work 3 times harder than everyone else as they tripled their share. They benefited from tax cuts and deregulation.

Gah, this is an interesting enough if quasi vague enough article that I don’t substantially agree or disagree with that strongly but like any time money/wealth and society gets involved I always go rampaging off through the internet for information.

There is probably no other subject that can be changed SO MUCH by merely changing one slight variable or word or detail when it comes to describing something - talking about the idea of wealth and distribution ratios at anything more than a very high level drives me to madness. Wealth, income, value, real value, tax rate, effective tax rate. The old adage of lies, damn lies & statistics always comes to mind.
